Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Fighters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the biggest crossover events in recent history and it shows in the playable roster of characters. Over 70 unique fighters appear in the game spanning multiple video game series and some characters even come from games not even created by Nintendo thus making those select few characters rather special when compared to others on the roster.

Firstly, let’s cover the first party characters featured in the game. The big names like Mario appear in the game along side several other characters from the Super Mario series of games, Popular Super Mario characters like: Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser and Yoshi all make an appearance as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There are also other popular series to have a big presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate such as: The Ledged of Zelda (With Link, Zelda and the main antagonist Ganondorf all playable), Pokémon with several Pokémon like the wildly popular Pikachu being playable fighters, Donkey Kong with characters from the Donkey Kong series (Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong and the main antagonist, King K. Rool all making a playable appearance in the game), the Kirby series (with Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight) and Metroid with Samus, Dark Samus and the main antagonist, Ridley.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t only full of mainstay popular characters and series, there are also a big number of lesser known characters and series in the game too, a few examples are: F-Zero with Captain Falcon, Kid Icarus with Pit, Dark Pit and Palutena, Pikmin with Olimar and even Mr. Game & Watch representing the Game and Watch line of consoles. Along with obscure characters and series there are also rather modern additions to the roster too: Animal Crossing with Villager, Punch Out with Little Mac, Wii Fit with Wii Fit Trainer and Splatoon with Inkling just to name a few of the newer series that are being represented in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a Nintendo game and is only available on the Nintendo switch, but that is not stopping the handful of third-party characters making the jump to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now to clarify a “third party” character is a character that was not made by Nintendo but instead made by another company. This gives the character that special title of being a third party unlike most of the roster has. Some names include: Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Konami’s Solid Snake, Capcom’s Mega Man, Namco’s Pac-Man, Square Enix’s Cloud Strife, Atlus’ Joker, Microsoft with Banjo and Kazooie and SNK with Terry Bogard.
